Community Cinema of the Year Awards

The biggest reward of running the Village Cinema is the incredible feedback we receive continuously from members and filmgoers, but it is also wonderful to get recognition from the Community Cinema world.

Each year since our launch we have received recognition for what we do at the annual Film Society and Community Cinema of the Year Awards, run by Cinema for All.. These awards are independently judged by a panel of industry professionals and with over 1,200 community cinemas around the country eligible for the awards, it is a record which we are justly proud of.

In 2017, the founder of the Village Cinema, David Saitch, was awarded the highest personal accolade the Community Cinema movement has to bestow, in the form of the Roebuck Cup. The Roebuck Cup is awarded each year to someone who epitomises the spirit of the community cinema movement and has worked to benefit the movement as a whole. It is fair to say that David was somewhat taken aback, and really moved to get such recognition. The award was given for the work he has done to help bring the Community Cinema world together and enable groups to share information, seek advice and generally feel part of a larger collective rather than operating in a silo.
