About the Village Cinema
Hurst Village Cinema is an award winning, volunteer run, not for profit community cinema initiative which was established in 2011.
We are a member of Cinema for All, the umbrella organisation which has been representing the Film Society movement since 1946. We are also members of the British Film Institute Neighbourhood Cinema and Film Hub South East. All of these organisations share the aim to support and improve cinema provision to all communities.
We have received recognition at the annual Film Society and Community Cinema of the Year awards run by Cinema for All in every year since we launched, winning the Best New Film Society of the Year Award in 2012 and including a Special Mention Award for Community Cinema of the Year in 2015. In 2017 David Saitch, the founder of the Village Cinema, was awarded to Roebuck Cup, the highest personal accolade awarded in the community cinema world, for the work he has done to support the community cinema movement as a whole.. Given that there are over 1,200 Film Societies and Community Cinemas around the country who are eligible for the awards, this is a fantastic record of success which we are truly proud of. More details on our awards can be found on the Awards page.

The Team
We are a small team who are dedicated to giving you the best cinematic experience you could have. As is the way these days, given our ultra busy lives, a helluva lot of the communication and management of the Village Cinema is done by email and WhatsApp, but we also regularly meet to discuss issues, make decisions and thrash out the programmes, as well as the day to day things we do to run the Cinema.
Rachel Rachel has been with Hurst Village Cinema since the very start. She was sat in a pub with David, talking about the idea and loving his enthusiasm for getting it off the ground; Rachel couldn’t believe what an exciting idea it was and wanted to be part of it straight away, A lover of movies, Rachel enjoys being transported into new worlds and stories. |
